April 21st, 2010 Herry Liu No comments

French hardware site Hardware.fr recently released a new report, detailed statistics of the market in Europe, the failure rate of computer parts, including motherboards, graphics cards, hard drives, memory, power supply. The report covers hardware sales in April 2009 to September 2009 the 6-month period, each sample is still at least 500 cases (some at least 100 cases), sources were France, vendors, thus do not represent the world market conditions for information purposes only.

- ASUS P5N-D (nForce 750i): 6.1%
From the results of view, this in addition to a slight increase in MSI, the other brands have decreased the failure rate. And high-end motherboards higher than average failure rate. Among them, the failure rate at 5% of the motherboard models, nForce family occupied the majority, it seems NVIDIA chipsets out of the desktop area is a wise one.
Second, graphics

- GeForce GTX 295 4.72%
- Radeon HD 4870 X2 12.34%
Based on single-core GPU graphics card, GeForce GTX series the failure rate is still higher than the Radeon HD. The 4870 X2 based on dual-core occupy the lowest position is still relatively GTX 295 is much better reliability.
The five most likely the fault of the card:
- Sapphire Radeon HD 4870X2: 15.6%
- Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Vapor-X: 5.1%
- Gainward Radeon HD 4850 GS: 4.9%

Third, the hard disk
Manufacturers:
- Hitachi 0.92% (previous 0.92%)
- Western Digital 0.99% (previous 0.89%)
- Maxtor 1.73% (previous 2.79%)
- Samsung 1.93% (previous 2.25%)

- Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B: 1.2%
- Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS: 0.7%
- Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS: 0.7%
Although due to the volume of the reasons for the failure rate of loss of Western lowest rankings. However, Caviar Green and Caviar Black series of excellent reliability, occupied the top two high-end models of reliability. The Seagate / Maxtor’s DiamondMax 22 and 7200.11 series is still as "firmware door" effect, reliability rankings to bottom. In addition, as a 5900 only to switch products, Seagate Barracuda LP series, the failure rate is pretty disappointing.
4, memory
Manufacturers:
- Kingston 0.37% (previous 0.47%)
- Crucial 0.78% (previous 1.70%)
- G. Skill 1.53% (previous 1.46%)

Kingston reliability continues to stay ahead and continue to improve its excellent rate. Its sales more than 100 cases of memory models are only the highest failure rate of 2.3%! In addition, Crucial and Corsair reliability of this has also been a substantial increase, while the G. Skill and OCZ are slightly lower.

Compared with the previous data, end to end position has not changed, but the failure rate increased. The top center of the Corsair, CoolerMaster, Fortron, and Thermaltake has the lower failure rate Dao Shi.
6, the latest
Can be seen from the data, the failure rate of five components all decrease compared to last year, we hope that this trend is maintained. Unfortunately, the most high-end product yield is still down, the product performance at the expense of reliability for the price.
September 2009-March 1010 period are only just beginning, there are 5 product failure rate of over 5%, while the previous statistics was 16. Please note that when consumers buy accessories avoid these products. The following is a high failure rate so far 10 Product Type:

French hardware site Hardware.fr published a special report, detailed statistics of the motherboards, graphics cards, hard drives, memory, power supply computer parts that the failure rate of five cases.
This report covers hardware sales in September 2008 to March 2009 period, each sample at least 500 cases (some at least 100 cases), although the source is the French distributor, so does not mean that the world market situation, only for reference.

- ASUS P5N-E SLI (nForce 650i): 7.7%
- ASUS P5Q (P45): 2.7%
- ASUS P5Q Pro (P45): 1.5%
As the first motherboard maker, Asustek variety of product failure rate high, but basically are all nForce series (ASRock nearly a fifth of that paragraph is true), and NVIDIA chipset in the desktop area has been uninterested.
Second, graphics
Manufacturers:
- Point of View: 4.67%
- Gainward: 3.15%
- Sapphire: 2.70%
- Gigabyte: 2.63%
- MSI: 2.05%
- ASUS: 1.71%
- PNY: 1.69%
PoV has improved than before but still the worst, Asus, and PNY best performance and also to see progress.

- Radeon HD 4870:6.1%
- GeForce GTX 295:6.5%
- Radeon HD 4850:3.3%
- GeForce GTX 260: 2.4%
GTX 280 is still the most unstable single-core graphics card, but the accident was 4870 X2 and 4870, the last statistical failure rates are still 4.3% and 3.2%, but this time a lot higher.

2 3
However, in terms of the manufacturers, NVIDIA more than 60%.

4
10 paragraph most likely the fault of the card:
- Sapphire 4870 X2: 10.6%
- Gigabyte GV-N98TOC-1GH: 10.6%

- Samsung SpinPoint F1: 2.9%
- Samsung EcoGreen F1: 1.6%
- Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EACS: 0.9%
- Hitachi 7K 1000.B: 0.8%
- Western Digital Caviar Black: 0%
- Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS: 0%
"Firmware" incident on the Seagate (including Maxtor) is very adverse, DiamondMax 22 and 7200.11 two series is really a nightmare, not only in the past by the end of this year until the beginning of the outbreak, the impact is not particularly large (the last you will see this article to the horrors of the past six months).
Western Digital’s performance is the most robust, in particular, is a black disk and a green disk are no failures. Two hard disk giant announced earnings later this month will, in accordance with the previous trend estimate, Western Digital’s market share is expected to more than Seagate.
